UTS coursework subjects may include a mix of:

  • lectures
  • tutorials
  • seminars
  • presentations
  • laboratory work
  • or individual study.

Class timetables

Undergraduate classes are often held during the day but some subjects may also have classes in the evening.

Postgraduate classes are held mainly in the evening.

Class sizes

Class sizes vary depending on the popularity of a subject and the type of activity. For example, teaching in computing laboratories may require smaller class sizes.

Normally, subjects involving tutorial classes have 15 to 30 students in a classroom.

Lectures for some compulsory subjects, especially those offered at undergraduate level, may be held in large lecture theatres.

Assessment of coursework

Information about coursework assessment is provided during the first week of semester.

Regular written assignments, tutorial participation, practical work, projects, short tests, seminar presentations and a final examination may form part of the assessment.

In some subjects, the final examination may be worth 20 to 50 per cent of the final subject grade. Some subjects have no final examinations.
